Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway Project With a total length of nearly 106km, passing through 4 provinces and cities: Hanoi, Hung Yen, Hai Duong and Hai Phong, divided into many construction packages. At package EX7, EX8, construction of Thanh An road and bridge across Van Uc river, Hai Phong city. Right from early morning, the working atmosphere on the construction site was very urgent, convoys of vehicles carrying soil, stone, sand... jammed together from the service roads on both sides for construction. In the middle of the river, where the construction of pillars and girder spans across the river is being constructed, massive cranes, boring machines, and concrete pile driving machines stand tall, standing out against the sky, exciting the whole area.

On the formwork scaffolding system floating on the river, despite the cold and strong winds, engineers and workers from Vietnam and Korea...still work hard.

Mr. Kim Hyo Sek - Executive Director of EX7 bidding package said: At peak time, there were 400 workers with 8 Korean experts working continuously in 3 shifts on the construction site. Progress has now reached 52%. In particular, the treatment of weak soil in this package has achieved 80%, the bridge piers of Thanh An bridge have risen and are preparing to launch girders.

At the Lach Tray bridge construction site under package EX10, the most difficult parts of the sub-foundation structure have basically been completed. However, due to schedule delays, we have been working continuously for the past few days. Mr. Vo Thanh Phong, a worker at Bridge Company 75, said: "We also want to work quickly before the rainy season, otherwise we won't be able to do the construction, which means we won't have a salary. We also work very hard to save money to take home for Tet."

Mr. Ly Hong Wei, Quality Director of the Chinese contractor at the EX3 package through Hung Yen, said that the most difficult job today is dealing with sinking ground and weak ground, so we must concentrate our forces for effective construction.

"Our bidding package includes both bridge and road construction. Roads must have time to compensate for subsidence, so we are focusing on constructing bridges. We encourage workers to work even on holidays to ensure progress..." - Mr. Ly Hong Wei said.

Engineer Tran Quang Nhat, representative of the project investor, Vietnam Infrastructure Development and Financial Investment Corporation (VIDIFI), said: over the past time, continuously more than 3,000 workers and over 400 foreign engineers and experts have been working at this construction site. On peak days, there are nearly 1,500 people working. Currently, in many bidding packages, Korean, Chinese, and Vietnamese workers and experts still work three shifts continuously without a break.

All are making efforts to speed up progress, regain time that has been delayed due to site clearance, and handle weak ground.

The investor and construction contractors of the Hanoi-Hai Phong expressway are working together to strive to complete and open the section through Hai Phong city by the end of 2014 and open the entire route to traffic by the end of 2015./.
