VTV.vn - Authorities said that large vehicles may be banned from driving in the left lane, close to the median strip on two Hanoi gateway highways.
After a week of piloting a ban on trucks driving in the left lane, close to the median strip on two Hanoi gateway highways, the authorities said they may ban more large vehicles and expand this approach to many other highways. This expansion is based on the results of the past week showing positive changes.
In addition to completing the installation of signs above and below the road surface, the maximum allowable speed is also clearly painted in each lane to increase driver awareness.
As for the traffic police force, distributing leaflets, giving reminders during vehicle stops to check, and playing loudspeakers while patrolling along the road are ways to quickly inform drivers of new regulations.
Major To Hoai Thanh (Highway Patrol and Control Team No. 3, Traffic Police Department) said: "The characteristics of the Phap Van - Cau Gie Expressway is the North - South route, so the Southern vehicles traveling through this route initially did not accept and comply with the fact that trucks are not allowed to circulate in lane No. 1. All officers and soldiers have focused on propaganda and broadcast loudspeakers on the route to make sure all drivers understand."
From August 15 until now, through the surveillance camera system along the two expressways Hanoi - Hai Phong and Phap Van - Cau Gie, the management and exploitation agency of these expressways said they have no longer recorded the situation of trucks traveling in prohibited lanes. The drivers who are subject to this adjustment also said that they feel safer and travel more conveniently.
In addition to the reason why heavy and slow trucks are banned from this lane, large vehicles that limit visibility on the road are also being considered for ban like trucks in the near future.
"This is not just during this pilot period, but before that we have analyzed and evaluated the types of vehicles and traffic behaviors on these two sections of the route, so we can confirm that after 1 month it can be preliminarily summarized and replicated," said Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hoai (Deputy Director of Vietnam Road Administration).
Vietnam Road Administration also added that after 1 month of piloting on two Hanoi gateway expressways, this unit will consider and review other expressways that are eligible to apply traffic reorganization similar to what is being done on the two routes Hanoi - Hai Phong and Phap Van - Cau Gie.
