Safe traffic routes mean reducing traffic accidents to a lower level than today. According to statistics, in 2024, traffic accidents on Highway 5 through Hai Duong province alone account for 18% of cases and 13% of deaths and injuries in the total statistics on traffic accidents in the entire province.

According to the design, the traffic only meets the level of 15,000 vehicles traveling day and night, but currently, every day National Highway 5 is carrying up to 90,000 vehicles traveling on it. These are factors that lead to traffic accidents occurring at a high rate.

"Going this route is stressful. Compared to many other routes, traveling on Highway 5 during rush hour is very crowded and difficult to travel," Mr. Phung Van Truyen (driver) shared.

The Traffic Police Department of Hai Duong Provincial Police said that the unit regularly arranges 4 working groups to patrol daily on Highway 5 to ensure traffic. Not only controlling and handling violations, the force also reviews shortcomings, inadequacies, and factors that pose a risk to people on the road.

"In fact, the working group has just set up checkpoints to handle violations, accompanied by patrol groups along the route to make traffic safe and most effective," said Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Duy Hung (Road Traffic Police Team, Hai Duong Provincial Police).

"We also recommend renovating and upgrading existing overpasses, allocating land funds to build overpasses in densely populated locations and industrial zones to facilitate traffic connections and ensure safety for people," Major Bui Thanh Toan (Road Traffic Police Team, Hai Duong Provincial Police) informed.

The traffic police force said it is necessary to add more rest stops for drivers or repair road surfaces and damaged and degraded sections.

At a larger investment level, a feeder and parallel route is also a solution that should be considered to reduce conflicts, thereby reducing the risk of traffic insecurity.
