The Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway project is a national key transportation project, invested and built in the BOT form, not invested with state budget capital like other transportation infrastructure projects. The total investment of the project is 45,487 billion VND.
The route is designed according to international highway standards type A with a length of 105.5km, with 6 driving lanes and 2 emergency stopping lanes. On the route, there are 7 intersections at different levels at intersections with national highways; There are 17 large bridges, 24 medium bridges, 22 overpasses and intersection bridges (total bridge length about 14km). The project uses Asphalt Polymer mats and a rough layer on the surface to ensure safety for vehicles running at a speed of 120km/h. This is a new technology applied throughout the expressway.
The starting point of the route is on Ring Road III of Hanoi, 1025m from Thanh Tri Cau Bac abutment towards Bac Ninh; The end point is Dinh Vu dam in Hai An district, Hai Phong city. The average cross-section width is 100m. When the entire route is completed, on the Hanoi - Hai Phong highway there will be a smart traffic control system and an automatic, closed toll collection system; Completely and modernly designed and installed traffic safety works and service areas at intersections and suitable locations.
Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway is part of Vietnam's expressway network planning. The route connects the capital Hanoi with the port city of Hai Phong. After being built, the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway along with the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway will create a traffic axis connecting Kunming (China) with the provinces and cities of Vietnam and to Hai Phong port. The formation of the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway will contribute to increasing the volume of circulation of goods, tourism and services between Vietnam and China and other Southeast Asian countries, while also contributing to promoting the economy of the northern provinces of Vietnam.

The 22.7km long route will be put into operation this May
Currently, a highway connecting Kunming (China) to the Vietnam-China border, about 400km long, has been built. The Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway (260km long) is also under construction. Therefore, the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway project is one of the Government's key projects to build a high-standard, modern expressway connecting Hanoi Capital with Hai Phong City and complete the connection of the 765.5 km long international expressway connecting Kunming (China) to the port city of Hai Phong (Vietnam).
