Hanoi-Hai Phong Expressway opened to traffic on the entire route at the end of 2015

Mr. Dao Van Chien, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Infrastructure Development and Financial Investment Corporation (VIDIFI), investor of the Hanoi-Hai Phong expressway project, said that by the end of 2015, this 105km long expressway will be opened to traffic and put into operation.

According to VIDIFI's report, the project was started in 2008, after 6 years of implementation, 11 packages covering 105km of the entire route are being implemented. To date, site clearance work has been basically completed, reaching nearly 100% of the area; Technical design, quality management, and official project approval procedures are also being implemented according to progress plans.

"By the end of this year, the Hanoi-Hai Phong expressway will technically open 25km of the route from Hai Phong City to the intersection of Provincial Road 353; in April 2015, about 90km will be opened and the entire route will be put into use by the end of 2015," Mr. Chien said.

According to the Ministry of Transport, currently, the road connecting Hanoi to Hai Phong only has National Highway 5 and has been invested in building and upgrading to 4-6 lanes, according to grade I (plain) road standards, completed in 1998. However, with the rapid increase of industrial parks and residential clusters along both sides of National Highway 5, the route is often congested, unable to meet the requirements of transporting goods from the Northern Key Economic Region to the port. Hai Phong.

"Therefore, the construction of the Hanoi-Hai Phong expressway to relieve congestion on National Highway 5 is very urgent, satisfy the rapidly increasing transport demand and shorten travel time between Hanoi Capital and Hai Phong City," the Ministry of Transport emphasized the importance of this project./.

The Hanoi-Hai Phong expressway project has a total investment of up to 46,900 billion VND, the entire route has a length of 105.5km with the starting point located on Ring Road 3 of Hanoi (1,025km from the Thanh Tri bridge abutment in Thach Ban ward, Long Bien district, Hanoi) passing through the provinces and cities of Hanoi (6km), Hung Yen (26.5km), Hai Duong (40), Hai Phong (33km), and the end point of the road is Dinh Vu dam (in Hai An district, Hai Phong).The designed car speed is 120km/h, the road surface is 33 m wide with 6 lanes, 2 emergency stopping lanes, a median strip, green strips on both sides of the road, and collector roads in necessary locations. The route has 9 large bridges, 21 medium bridges, 22 overpasses with a total bridge length of about 11km. 124 underground sewers and overpasses for people's lives.
